Prof Srinivasa Shastry, or Shastry Sir, as he is popularly known in the student circles of IIT JEE, has for over 30 years, immersed himself in getting one batch after another, ready for the gigantic challenges of taking on competitive exams like IIT JEE, Olympiads and ISI.
He has to date, enabled over 8,000 students to qualify into IITs, BITS and NITs.
Day after day, year and year, right from 5 AM, his assuring figure brings positivity into the nervous minds of the countless students that all is well. He would assuage the emotions in the students’ minds, saying that “No mountain peak is ever threatening.” You are bigger than the biggest mountain. The battle is in your mind. Shastry Sir’s friendly words and his 18 hours a day work schedule has given students the power of his presence when it matters.
For Shastry Sir, enduring excellence has helped him create a process for the students to strictly adhere to. This process becomes a template. The mantra is simple: Excellence for success. He is someone who loves to be with his students in the physical space. But there is only so much that one can do in the physical space.
Today, thanks to technology, Shastry Sir is inspired to reach out to thousands more. He always laments about the lack of good teachers in interior land. The challenge is always to get the marginalized sections of our society to benefit from technology.
